Hutatma Qurban Hussain kin on hunger strike for not receiving pension

Solapur: Freedom fighter Abdul Rasool Qurban Husain, one of four martyrs of Solapur who gave their life while fighting for India’s freedom against British rule. His kin are now battling fight for not receiving pension from Solapur Municipal Corporation.

The heirs of Hutatma Qurban Hussain were getting Rs. 3,000/- as pension from Mayor’s fund since long. Maryambi Shaikh, niece of Qurban Hussain was getting the pension earlier though not consistently and the due amount now stands around Rs. 7,00,000/-. Two years ago, Solapur Municipal Corporation has decided to give the pension to Hakimuddin, son of Maryambi after her death. Although implementation of the same is intentionally held by authorities, says Hakimuddin Shaikh. Adamant behavior of Babu Yangdul, a clerk in Accountants Department has stalled the pension, he claims.

Hakimuddin says that he has filed RTI application to know how Yangdul is working in same department for 20 years but no response received from Municipal Commissioner office. He also demands scrutiny of the clerk, who is sitting in same position for so long.

Hakimuddin is on hunger strike in front of Solapur Municipal Corporation gate since Friday July 20. Royal Multipurpose Social Organization (Royal Bahu-Uddeshik Samajik Sansatha) led by Sadik Nadaf, Shivaji Muslim Brigade’s Farooque Shaikh, Nadeem Dongaonkar and Mushtaque Shaikh has extended their support to the Hakimuddin’s protest. Additional Municipal Commissioner Shrikant Mayakalvar has met Hakimuddin and local corporators Mahesh Anna Kothe (Shivsena), Parmod Dada Gaikwad (AIMIM), Azhar Hundekari (AIMIM) assured him of their support.
