After criticism, Maulana Badruddin Ajmal backtracks controversial Salafi sect statement

New Delhi: AIUDF leader and Member of Parliament Maulana Badruddin Ajmal Qasmi in a statement issued yesterday backtracked from his controversial comments made against Salafi sect during his speech in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

AIUDF leader in a signed statement issued on his official letter head said whatever he spoke about “his Salafi brothers” in the Parliament was “unintentional” and “far from truth”.

“My utterances about Salafis vis-à-vis terrorism were without any basis and far from truth, it was never my intention that Salafi brothers are involved or support terrorism. I backtrack from my words and apologise to my Salafi brothers”, he said.

The MP also said that he has written to the Lok Sabha secretariat to strike out the controversial parts of his speech from the Parliament’s record.

Ajmal while participating in the debate on the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill 2018 (Triple Talaq) held Salafi sect responsible for promoting terrorism in India.

Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees Hind chief Maulana Asghar Ali Imam Mahdi Salafi in a statement said that the way Maulana Ajmal slandered against the Salafism is highly regrettable and termed it as an act of spreading anarchy among Indian Muslims.

The statement further says, through social media it has been found that Maulana (Badruddin Ajmal) has issued an apology statement, but it does not suffice this horrifying statement.

“Maulana has appealed the Parliament to remove the controversial parts of his speech, likewise a formal apology statement should be released in all forms of the media. He should do all the efforts to pacify the hearts of millions of Salafis and Muslims who are saddened by such blatant falsehood. This will be the better course in the interest of the country and the community”, reads the statement.

It is for the second time in a day when Badruddin Ajmal had to tender apology for his irresponsible utterances. Early Thursday morning Badruddin Ajmal Qasmi was forced to apologise to a journalist after he lodged a police complaint against him.

In his complaint lodged Wednesday, the journalist had accused Badurddin Ajmal Qasmi of abusing and threatening him in public. A video of the entire episode is also leaked on internet where Badruddin Ajmal Qasmi – a graduate from Darul Uloom Deoband, is seen abusing and threatening the journalist in response to a simple question.
