Another cleric endorses mosque away from disputed site in Ayodhya

Pune: Senior cleric and Islamic scholar Maulana Syed Shahabuddin Salfi Firdausi has endorsed Maulana Salman Nadwi’s stance that land for a mosque away from the disputed site in Ayodhya could be an option for Muslims.

Maulana Firdausi in a tweet said, “The whole earth is a mosque. A place of worship can be replaced in the greater interests of the Indian Muslims and this will be a desirable step in Babri Masjid case”. Maulana Salman Nadwi who later retracted from his earlier statement quickly re-tweeted Maulana Firdausi’s tweet, reported Hindustan Times.

In another tweet while quoting references from the sacred text, he tweeted, “The (whole) earth has been made a mosque (or a place of prayer) and a means of purification for me, so wherever a man of my ummah may be when the time for prayer comes, let him pray.” (Sahih Bukhari 335, Sahih Muslim 1058).

Maulana Firdausi, earlier has denounced triple talaq and halala before the Supreme Court judgment, calling them un-Islamic and instruments to oppress women. He has also authored a book ‘Talaq Talaq Talaq’ on triple talaq and halala. He is founder and chairman of Athar Blood Bank in Solapur.

All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), however on Wednesday ruled out an out of court settlement for Ayodhya issue and said that it is too late for talks and only a court verdict on the matter is acceptable.
