Dear PM, is there a danger to my life? Ravish Kumar writes in open letter

Well-known TV news anchor Ravish Kumar, who runs Prime Time on NDTV India has written a strong open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after receiving threats in a WhatsApp group. In his open letter, Ravish criticized PM for following people who use abusive and threatening language on social media.

Ravish has written the letter on his blog Naisadak mentioning how he has been abused and threatened after being added to a WhatsApp group. The letter has also been posted to Prime Minister’s official residential address.

“Dear Prime Minister, if I read the lewd language used to abuse me and some other journalists in this WhatsApp group, then anybody would close his/her ears. The language used against women journalists is shameful”.

Further it says, “The politics that has created this crowd on social media and road, one day it will become a big challenge for society and especially for women. Their abuses are anti-women”.

Explaining the reason to write the letter, he says, “This time I am writing because I want to know and you should also investigate if people of this WhatsApp group can go to the extent of killing me? Is there a danger to my life?”

In the letter, Ravish asks PM Modi why he follows people like Niraj Dave and Nikhil Dadhich. He writes when he had asked Dave to refrain from using abusive language, the latter wrote,” I am sad that you are still alive.”

Ravish has posted some screenshots from the WhatsApp group on his Facebook page @RavishKaPage, then traced Niraj Dave and found that he is followed by PM’s personal twitter handle.

Nikhil Dadhich had posted offensive comments on Twitter after the murder of activist-journalist Gauri Lankesh.

Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Ravish says truth doesn’t remain truth once ego comes in.

He ends the letter asking, “If you know Nikhil Dadhich, Niraj Dave and Akash Soni, just ask them if they or any of their group have plans to kill me?”

Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Loksabha MP Ashok Chavan wrote a letter to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday expressing concern over the safety of senior journalists Rajdeep Sardesai and Ravish Kumar who have been allegedly receiving death threats on social media.
