All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat continues Mushawarat outreach program in Pune

All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), the umbrella body of all Muslim organisations of India, held the Markazi Majlis-e-Amla (MMA) meeting in Azam Campus, Pune followed by public address on July 30, 2017.

Pune MMA meeting is an extension of All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat President Navaid Hamid’s Mushawarat outreach program. To increase the foothold of Mushawarat among common Muslims across India, Mushawarat is holding the meetings at different places in India.

The Majlis-e-Mushwarat was established in 1964 as the apex forum of Muslim organizations and institutions of national eminence alongwith some well-known personalities. The main focus of Mushawarat is to liaison with the government and civil society organizations to put across Indian Muslims points of view. Also promote internal reforms and development and advise the Muslim community on how to react to issues and new developments by increasing the interaction with them.

Navaid Hamid, who is serving as 7th president of Mushawarat and will serve the Mushawarat until the end of 2017 in his presidential address said, “During sixties physical violence was predominant phenomena and because of such clashes both communities and groups used to suffer equally. But after 2014, situation has become more dangerous and now this war has surpassed physical violence and turned into ideological and psychological war. It not a good sign for a country if it is grappled with ideological and psychological war.” Countrymen should be aware of this slow poison which shows the results after a decade or so, he added.

Hamid also added that Mushawarat is a federal body and it means heterogeneous organization and people should come and sit together and find out a way out. Mushawarat is the oldest advocacy group of Indian Muslims and when mass organizations fail to address any issue then advocacy group does it. He also elaborated the works done by Mushwarat and said that Mushwarat is the one who helped in forming All India Muslim Personal Law Board and silently united all Muslim organizations when Aligarh Muslim University’s minority identity was in question and mobilized the community. India Islamic Center, Delhi came into existence after Mushawarat appealed to government of India.

All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat has done 5 meetings in 17 months across India under Mushawarat outreach program. Public interactions are held to know people’s feeling about the Muslim community and to gain the guidance from the community leaders and eminent personalities.

Majlis-e-Mushawarat General Secretary Mujtaba Farooque in his introductory speech said, “After partition, most of the elites moved to Pakistan and those who stayed in India have suffered a lot. Newspaper reported that villages were destroyed and looked deserted. Muslim eminent personalities, political leaders, clerics and social activist came and sit together and decided to form Mushawarat which itself means to sit together and decide on something. Mushawarat then visited the affected areas and gave strength to the victims.” Indian Muslims are born here not to run away but to stay here, he added.

Maulana Asghar Ali Imam Mehdi Salafi, Secretary General Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees, Hind and Vice President All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat while replying to a question about the steps to be taken by Muslim community in current situation said, “Present government says that only Sufi form of Islam will work in India but during Muzaffar Nagar riots most of the Muslims were Sufi Islam followers and still suffered huge losses. Mushawarat is trying to unite Muslim community since 1964 and expects that everybody will take lead and form the Mushawarat committee in their respective cities and help in achieving the Mushawarat mission of uniting everybody, till now 17 organizations are part of Mushawarat.” The internal gap among Muslim community and the external divide with Dalits, Brahmins and other Hindus should be bridged and we should not allow division on the basis of region and religion, he added.
